Open Music Labs goal

by mcanulty » Fri May 21, 2010 04:01 UTC · in General
I'm hoping to turn this site into a good go-to place for electronic music knowledge. I think there's a lot of knowledge out there about pedals and things, and elsewhere there's a lot of knowledge about making leds blink with digital programming, but not a lot of good places that collect the crossover of this knowledge.

Mark and I are also hoping to turn the MICrODEC into a general device for people who want to get their hands dirty with embedded digital audio processing, something that they can purchase relatively cheaply and then reprogram and mod to their heart's content.

What do you think, too dark?

I'm trying to figure out what a decent looking but not distracting design is, I'm open to ideas.

MICrODEC goal ideas

by mcanulty » Fri May 21, 2010 04:07 UTC · in General MICrODEC
I guess I jumped the gun on this one, and wrote up something about this in the OML category already.

My thought is that the goal is to let people get into embedded audio processing, but I think it's also to create an audio processor that can benefit from an active community.

Any more specific goals that people have, what excites you about the device, ways in which you'll want to use it?

We can put any ideas like that to work for focusing early forum discussion, and giving us some jumping off points for documentation and projects.

Burning the chip - two things about programming

there are two special things about programming
1. the dip header with jumper needs to be removed - replace when done and programming header is removed
2. pin1 of the programming header is the lower right corner - its the solder pad that is square - you can look at the bottom of the board to verify

The box itself - knobs and such

the knobs are as follows on the front from left to right

input gain, feedback, wet dry mix, output volume, mod1(pot), mod2(rotary encoder with pushbutton), function select (16pos rotary switch)

there are 16 functions on it but some of them sound very similar and some dont seem to make much difference on the sampler functions you have to push mod2 to record most of the instructions should be in the assembly files for the functions which is another thing to add the website a place for explaining what the functions do

on the back it is as follows (from the front perspective, left to right)

stereo 1/4" in, stereo 1/4" out, 9vdc in

That's 9vdc tip positive!
